The flying bears of Dachigam :) :D
With the temperatures dipping in Kashmir most of the Himalayan Black Bears have proceeded for hibernation. One stray family was still seen gathering nutrition before they made the final dash for the season.
Of all the pictures of the Himalayan bear I took over 2 days this one is undoubtedly my favourite. This big fellow backed out when our naturalist came between us and him, but he did growl again asking us to get lost...which we immediately complied with.
What a sighting. Such amazing memories 😊
A sneak peak into the world of Himalayan Black Bears from North India. Looks are deceptive is perfectly personified by these creatures - cuddly to look at with those innocent eyes, ferocious when they growl and / or charge. Fascinating either ways :D
He came. He saw. He charged. Presenting the truly wild Himlayan black bear.
Dachigam is a hidden jewel amongst the Himalayas. The only option for safaris is to walk it out. Not for the faint hearted!
Most thrilling experience to witness Himalayan Black Bear in the wild... Thnx to Safarist, me & Ranjith from Safarist who joined for that trip.
The first time we saw the bear, it was at a distance. Maybe, it sensed our presence and moved back inside the forest. These bears love oak trees and come out to forage. We moved away and when we came back 30 mins later, the bear was sitting right on that spot! Face to face with a Himalayan black bear on foot - it is difficult to describe what we were feeling. Nazir Malik sir had instructed us before our trek to move without sound only when the bear was feeding and to click pictures only when the bear is looking at us. We simply followed his instructions and the bear carried on feeding, while exchanging glances every now and then. These are dangerous animals and with the experience of Nazir sir that we were able to react to the situation well.
