Best watched in Full HD (1080p).
This video was filmed at Tungabhadra Otter Conservation Reserve, Near Hampi in Karnataka in the month of October 2019.
Smooth Coated Otters are Tungabhadra River’s Apex predator. They are the largest otter species in Asia. These Otters are also known as Wild Water Dogs. Although adapted for water, Smooth Coated Otters are equally comfortable on land, hence are also classified as semi aquatic animals. They can travel long distance overland in search of suitable habitat. They play, rest, scrub & clean their bodies on sandy river banks & establish their dens under tree roots or among boulders. They are mainly found in fresh water areas. As per IUCN Red list Smooth Coated Otter is listed as vulnerable species. It is threatened by poaching, loss & destruction of wetlands. The Tungabhadra Otter Conservation Reserve, a 34 Km stretch of habitat along the Tungabhadra river is the country’s first Otter Reserve acknowledging the importance of this species of wildlife & to take necessary action to protect them before it’s too late.

Jetal Shah @Ranjith Kumar, You can reach the banks of the river Tungabhadra by car / vehicle. Later you can try your luck from the shore of the river or try hiring a local fisherman with his Coracle & try your luck.
