Photo was taken on the Leh-Zanskar overland trip in July, 2017. Mr Maneck Barjucha from Bombay accompanied me on this trip advertised through The Safarist.
The Drang-Drung Glacier located near the Pensi La mountain pass on the Kargil - Zanaskar Road in the Kargil district of Jammu and Kashmir in India. It is the 2nd largest glacier in Ladakh after the Siachen Glacier in the Karakoram Range, with a length of 23 kilometres (14 mi) at an average elevation of 4,780 m (15,680 feet). The glacier lies in the Zanskar Range, 142 kilometres (88 mi) south of Kargil and 331 kilometres (206 mi) east of Srinagar, the capital of Jammu and Kashmir. (Wiki)

KARSHA GUSTOR FESTIVAL TRIP IN ZANSKAR
Travel by road from Leh to Karsha Monastery in Zanskar for the Karsha Gustor Festival which will be held on 21st and 22nd July, 2017. You are invited to join on a cost sharing basis travelling with like minded travellers.
Attractions: breath taking high altitude scenery, mountains, high passes, culture and a Buddhist Monastic fesstival in the remote setting of the Zanskar Valley. From Leh to Karsha is a 460 kms drive and we will be doing in two days; breaking our journey in Kargil town or Rangdom Gompa. We will be stopping at monasteries, villages and scenic photo spots along the way as time permits. Birding and wildlife viewing as opportunity arises.
It is a high altitude trip in rugged conditions. Those who want to join should arrive Leh at least 3 days in advance for acclimatization reason before starting this trip. Medical and evacuation insurance is recommended in case anyone has to turn back for health or other reasons.
19 July: Early morning start from Leh and dive to Kargil or Padum.
20 July: Continue drive to Karsha in the Zanskar valley.
21 July: Attend Gutsor Festival at Karsha Monastery.
22 July: Visit nearby villages, gompas and/or attend festival.
23 July: Start drive back to Leh. Overnight Kargil or other place on the way.
24 July: Continue drive to Leh. Trip ends on arrival in Leh.
Note: Itinerary is flexible as per local situation, road/weather conditions, etc.
