Guidelines for wildlife

What constitutes wildlife in the community

‘Wildlife’ in the community refers to undomesticated animals and also includes flora (plants, fungi, other organisms) that grow or life in an area without being introduced by humans. ‘Urban wildlife’ also comes under this domain, key point being that they do not constitute ‘wildlife’ if they have been introduced by humans

Plagiarism

Anything that you post- photograph or information must be owned by you. No plagiarism shall be tolerated. Posts which don't have enough authenticity or genuineness may be deleted by administrators without any notice. The member posting such material shall also be removed

The content posted within the community are copyright and property of the individuals posting the same. All photographs are copyright and property of the photographers and they reserve all rights to their usage. If a photograph is to be posted under the Creative Commons license of choice, it must be mentioned along with the post

Every post is mapped to a destination

While posting on the website, it is mandatory to select the destination, place or area. If the destination is not listed currently, you can also add missing destinations

Additional details that are recommended

If you are adding a photograph, it is recommended you mention the date along with the identity of the species. These are extremely critical data points that can be valuable to record for research purposes. You may also mention the EXIF data in the description along with any other relevant information. Enhancement of images through post processing is allowed, however not in a way that alters the natural setting. If you are adding a tip, it is recommended you mention the dates during which you traveled. This serves as a crucial piece of information for others reading the tip

Ethics

Wildlife viewing comes with its own set of responsibilities. It is a well known that one should never interfere with the natural course of what happens in the wild. A lot of these areas come under protected areas and therefore impose restrictions on what one is allowed to do. Even otherwise, any post which indicates a violation of these responsibilities or restrictions or promotes unacceptable behavior will be taken down in the best interests of the community

While posting in the community, please keep in mind that this is an interest driven community. Whatever you post must be relevant to other people, who need not be acquainted to you. Please avoid using abbreviations and casual language. This is to ensure maximum discoverability and in helping others derive maximum value from what you post

‘Birding’ or birdwatching in the community refers to any activity related to the observation of birds found in the wild, in their natural habitats. This may include birds that are found in urban areas, however they should not be captive birds or have been introduced into that area by humans
