Short-toed snake eagle in flight
Was happy to get an in flight shot of this raptor. December is a great time for birding in LRK. In the 3 days that I spent here, was able to see plenty of raptors- STSE, steppe, eastern imperial eagle, merlin, kestrel, laggar falcon, harriers (marsh, montagu's), peregrine, short eared owl, thousands of flamingos, the lovely common cranes and not to mention, plenty of the resident bird species. Was hoping for a glimpse of the MacQueen's bustard unfortunately it eluded us. Among mammals, was able to see foxes, jackals, wild asses, nilgai, jungle cat, though wasn't able to catch any of the desert foxes. All in all, a great birding trip and I am looking forward to go again this winter.
Thousands of flamingos congregate at this spot in LRK. Was about 30km from our camp. It was unending.. entire stretch was just full of flamingos. We were able to get a little closer than from where we are (even crawled a bit), but in the absence of any cover, any more and they would have dispersed! This is from my trip in Dec 16, hope to be back there this year again.
