Came across a large pack of jackals - were about 7-8 of them with 2 adult females and the rest were their pups.
Common green magpie
Could not make much of an image but I was extremely happy to get this skulker! Its colors are so vivid. I was also quite surprised to know that it frequently preys on small reptiles, mammals, young birds and eggs.
Siddhartha Naidu Lovely!
Ibisbill, found it in River Kosi near the Garjiya Devi temple in the outskirts of Corbett National Park. River valleys frequented by the Ibisbill have very little vegetation and gentle slopes which makes for a slow flow of water.
Vineet Kurien Nice capture and a good bit of information here Arun! Was this the only Ibisbill there? They're usually seen in groups during the winters, isn't it?
Arun James Good observation Vineet, you're right. There were 4 of them that time. In fact, I was told the same 4 individuals come back to that area every year during winters.
Vineet Kurien Thanks.. good catch btw :)
Sameer Vaid Wonderful!
During my last trip, I took around 3 canoe rides in the backwaters of Denwa River. I loved that we were able to get quite close to the birds. It also allowed us to make images from a very low level. The canoe obviously covers less distance, but it gives you the flexibility and chance to navigate yourself to capture any of the birds that you come across. There is also a boat ride option, it will cover a much larger area, but I feel it compromises on flexibility and you also tend to scare most of the birds away because of the sound. Overall, I was extremely pleased with the birding opportunities in Satpura. Would love to hear others experiences
Arijit Kanani They also have walking safaris (accompanied by a guide) in specific areas in the core. So much more to do than just safari drives.
Tanmay Keshav The area next to the FRH in the Churna side can be extremely conducive for birding. Also, you'll definitely see the malabar giant squirrel there
Avijit Ganguly I think TAnmay forgot to mention about the Flying squirrel in Churna FRH complex
The MTDC Resort at Bor Wildlife Sanctuary is a 5 minute drive from Bordharan Gate. The tariff for AC and non-AC rooms vary from Rs.1000 to Rs. 1700. The last time I went I couldn't book online. We managed to get in touch with Mr. Chavan for bookings - 08007749353 / 9823348180.
Piyush Khinvasara Thanks for the contact. Big help!
Sameer Vaid Hi Arun. if you know, are there any other good accommodation options there? I think there's a forest rest house there too, any idea about how it is?
Ronak Shah FDCM has a 4 room guest house & is located nearer to the safari gate. All rooms are with AC. Food is also prepared by self help group of village women. You can book online through the maha ecotourism website.
Arun James Thanks for the reply Ronak
Rajan R D So there's FDCM, MTDC and an FRH too?
Ronak Shah No FDCM & FRH are same.
Rajan R D Thanks Ronak
Vineet Kurien There is no online booking for MTDC Bor yet, is there?
Arun James Vineet, when I had gone, i didnt find any online booking in the MTDC website. I had a quick look now, I still don't see it there unless it's on some other name
Wild Willy FDMC accommodation is available at Bor and online bookings are feasible through Maha Forest website
