Tips

Hi guys, not really a tip.. needed some information. Was planning a trip including Velavadar / Blackbuck NP and some other parks in Gujarat. Was going to spend 1 night in Velavadar. I was looking for a budget accommodation for easy access to the park. I am aware that there is a FRH but not sure about how the booking is to be done, does anyone have any idea about it? Any other information for stay will be great. Thanks

The Safarist Thank you all for your suggestions. Questions to the community could very well fit in. We will look into this and test it out over the coming few days.

Maulik Desai Great inputs from all! ... @Arijit - I understand the Blackbuck lodge is in excess of 10k per night, but if budget is not a big constraint, would you personally consider it as providing good value in terms of overall service, facilities, location etc? Any input will be appreciated.

The total safari charges are around Rs. 2700 (Vehicle Entry Fees - Rs. 440, Entry Charges per person - Rs. 80, Vehicle hiring charges - Rs. 1800, Guide fees - Rs. 300). You can book your safari permit at the official website - https://nationalpark.mahaonline.gov.in/User/Availability.aspx

Some info for all the zones/routes in Satpura:-
The Keria Route is a 14km stretch & the charges are Rs. 2750/- (Rs. 1250 for entry, Rs. 300/- for the forest guide and Rs. 1200/- as jeep rental).
The Lagda Route covers the Keria Route too. The charges are Rs. 3050/- (Rs. 1250 for entry, Rs. 300/- for the forest guide and Rs. 1500/- as jeep rental).
The Churna Route is the longest route and covers the entire area around the FRH in Churna which is really beautiful. It also includes part of the Keria route. To cover the Churna route, you need to do 2 safaris back to back. The charges are Rs. 6700/- (Rs. 2500 for entry, Rs. 700/- for the forest guide, and Rs. 3500/- for jeep rentals). This cost includes both safaris.

We quite enjoyed our stay at the FRHs. We split our stay between Karmajhiri FRH & Rukhad FRH. At Karmajhiri, we stayed in dorms (Rs. 220 per bed) and at Rukhad FRH, we paid something close to Rs. 1300 for our stay.

Subhashis Chakraborty Hi Mohit, is it possible to do safaris from Turia Gate or Khursapar Gate if one stays in Karmajhiri FRH?

Mohit Srinivasan Hi Subhashis.. sorry for the delayed reply. Karmajhiri to Turia from outside is quite far (although from inside it is only 25km). Technically, you can do safari from any gate but you will need to keep in mind the distances from outside the park. Otherwise, after the safari you can get down in the Turia gate and stay there. But wherever your permit is for, you can enter from that gate only. You could take permits accordingly and decide your accommodation based on that. Khursapar is about 30 mins from Turia and again as long as you have bookings from Maharashtra online website, you can go there.. best from Turia - about 20 km, 30 min ride through village roads. Let me know if you need any other info

The last time we went to Umred, we stayed at the FDCM property Eco Tents at Gothangaon. We loved the stay but they didn't have provisions for food so we had to figure that out ourselves. It's advisable to make prior bookings - https://accommodation.mahaonline.gov.in/User/SearchBooking.aspx
